Changing the drive letters for a USB drive

When using multiple USB drives, Microsoft assigns a drive letter to each drive and remembers it. You can edit these drive letters and make them all the same, which eliminates some of the issues with USB drive letters.

  1. Go to My Computer or open Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disc Management.
  2. Click Manage.
  3. Click Disk Management.
  4. Right click the USB drive.
  5. Select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
  6. Click Change and select the desired drive letter.

Repeat for each USB drive, assigning them the same drive letter

Note: This applies when using one USB at a time. if you plug in more than one USB, the drive letters will change. If you plug in more than one USB, you'll need to change the drive letters again.

Warning: Avoid changing the drive letter path for your C:\ (or local) drive. Changing this path could delete the entire partition.
