Changing the drive letters for a USB drive
When using multiple USB drives, Microsoft assigns a drive letter to each drive and remembers it. You can edit these drive letters and make them all the same, which eliminates some of the issues with USB drive letters.
- Go to My Computer or open Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disc Management.
- Click Manage.
- Click Disk Management.
- Right click the USB drive.
- Select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
- Click Change and select the desired drive letter.
Repeat for each USB drive, assigning them the same drive letter
Note: This applies when using one USB at a time. if you plug in more than one USB, the drive letters will change. If you plug in more than one USB, you'll need to change the drive letters again.
Warning: Avoid changing the drive letter path for your C:\ (or local) drive. Changing this path could delete the entire partition.
