A three-step process
A sync between Field Manager PRO and the app happens in three stages due to the large amount of data that moves between them. It’s a deliberate process that requires your participation at each stage. Let’s look at it from a linear view rather than a continuous circle. The diagram below demonstrates how information flows back and forth.
Syncing from Field Manager PRO on your computer sends your current crop year to everyone you’re sharing your data with. Think of each user having a “mailbox.” At this point, there are three identical copies of your file stored in the cloud mailboxes.
When each user signs
into the app, it checks the mailbox and downloads any new information. Now there are three identical copies of your file from the desktop on three separate mobile devices. The desktop, the cloud and the mobile devices are all the same.
Adding new data.
Information now starts flowing the other way. As users add new records to the app, we end up with three unique sets of data on three separate mobile devices. When ready, each user will sync from the app. This sends their unique data up to their mailbox in the cloud. Now the cloud matches the information available on each user’s device, but we still have three unique sets of data.
To combine all that data in one place, we need to sync from the desktop computer again. This time, the app checks everyone’s mailbox for changes and then pulls those changes into the current crop year on the desktop, giving us one complete version of everyone’s data. Once it’s combined the data, the sync will send the new version of your crop year back up to all the mailboxes. The next time everyone signs into the app, they’ll have the complete version of the file, including all changes made by other users on other mobile devices. At this point, desktop, cloud and app all agree – until the next change is entered on the app or on the desktop.
