Unable to Add a Fiscal Year
One of the most common issues you may run across when attempting to add a fiscal year is that you are unable to do so. The Add Fiscal Year button is greyed out and inaccessible.
When you see this situation, this normally means that there is an unresolved accountant’s copy on your data file. If you look in the blue bar at the bottom of your screen, you may see a reference to a dividing date. This is what will let you know that you have an unresolved accountant’s copy.
To fix this issue, you must first answer the question “Will my accountant be sending me any adjustments for this fiscal year?”.
If the answer is yes, then you must wait until your accountant is finished before you can proceed to the next fiscal year. If you proceed, you will break the link between your file and your accountant’s file, and you will not be able to import any of the accountant’s changes.
If the answer is no, then you must remove the dividing date from your data file so that you can proceed with creating your next fiscal year. To do this, go to File > Undo Accountant’s Copy.
Follow through with the process to undo the dividing date on your data file by clicking on OK, then clicking on Yes. You will be told that your dividing date has been removed.
Click on OK. You will see that the reference to the dividing date at the bottom of the screen has disappeared.
If you go back to Setup > Fiscal Years, you will now be able to access the Add Fiscal Year button and proceed as normal.
